Veiligheidsmonitor Mariaberg 2025 van start!

[Maastricht | donderdag 17 juli 2025] Heb je last van rommel op straat? Hinder van buren of rondhangende jongeren? Is er bij jou ingebroken? Of zie je wel eens iets verdachts in de buurt? Dit zijn enkele vragen van de veiligheidsmonitor die worden gesteld aan 13.916 inwoners van Maastricht. Ook inwoners van Mariaberg ontvangen deze vragen over hun wijk.

De veiligheidsmonitor is een onderzoek naar criminaliteit, onveiligheid, buurtproblemen, en het optreden van gemeente en politie. Dit onderzoek wordt op gemeentelijk en op landelijk niveau uitgevoerd. Het gemeentelijk onderzoek begint omstreeks 25 juli; de resultaten worden in maart 2026 verwacht. Deelnemers aan het onderzoek krijgen per post een uitnodiging om de vragenlijst van de veiligheidsmonitor in te vullen.

De gemeente gebruikt de uitkomsten van dit tweejaarlijks terugkerende onderzoek bij het vormgeven en evalueren van haar veiligheidsbeleid. Het onderzoek wordt in opdracht van de gemeente uitgevoerd door Ipsos I&O. Burgemeester Hillenaar benadrukt het belang van de veiligheidsmonitor: "Het is essentieel dat we weten wat de inwoners van de veiligheid en leefbaarheid in onze gemeente vinden. Daarmee kunnen we ons beleid beter afstemmen op hun wensen en ervaringen. Alleen bij hoge deelname ontstaat een goed beeld van de veiligheidssituatie in onze gemeente."

Safety monitor Mariaberg 2025 kicks off!

[Maastricht | Thursday, July 17, 2025] Are you dealing with litter on the streets? Disturbances from neighbors or loitering youths? Have you experienced a break-in? Or do you sometimes notice something suspicious in your neighborhood? These are some of the questions from the safety monitor being posed to 13,916 residents of Maastricht. Residents of Mariaberg will also receive these questions about their neighborhood.

The safety monitor is a study focused on crime, safety concerns, neighborhood issues, and the responses from the municipality and police. This research is conducted at both the municipal and national levels. The municipal survey will begin around July 25, with results expected in March 2026. Participants in the study will receive an invitation by mail to complete the safety monitor questionnaire.

The municipality uses the findings from this biennial survey to shape and evaluate its safety policies. The research is commissioned by the municipality and carried out by Ipsos I&O. Mayor Hillenaar emphasizes the importance of the safety monitor: "It's crucial that we understand what residents think about safety and livability in our community. Another car on fire in Mariaberg

[Maastricht | Monday, July 7, 2025] Another car caught fire overnight from Sunday to Monday. This time on Fatimaplein. Emergency services arrived around 1 a.m. to extinguish the fire. Nevertheless, the vehicle burned completely. This is the latest in a long series of vehicle fires in Maastricht. Notably, several of these fires have occurred at roughly the same spot. Police are not ruling out arson this time either.

In 2019, two cars and a caravan burned on Florasingel, adjacent to Fatimaplein. The results of the neighborhood investigation conducted then were never disclosed. More recently, several cars burned on Brouwersweg, and the same happened to a vehicle on Proosdijweg. The latter incident may have been part of an earlier series involving a nearby cafeteria.
