Mariabergse Jeugdopbouwwerker Jesse Dessart in selectiecommissie Jeugdlintje 2026
[Maastricht | 03 juni 2026] Op woensdag 3 juni vond de feestelijke uitreiking van het Maastrichtse Jeugdlintje 2026 plaats in het Stadhuis. Kinderburgemeester Liv Paanakker en Wethouder Pas reikten de Jeugdlintjes en een presentje uit aan de jongeren. Voor het eerst mochten de ontvangers van het Jeugdlintje 2026 een bedrag van 250 euro vanuit de gemeente schenken aan een goed doel of vereniging van hun keuze.
Veel kinderen en jongeren in onze stad doen vrijwillig iets extra’s voor anderen. Zo werken zij mee aan Maastricht als stad van verbondenheid. Als waardering voor deze jonge kanjers (tussen 6 -18 jaar) reikt de gemeente jaarlijks het Maastrichtse Jeugdlintje uit.
Ontvangers Jeugdlintje 2026
Emma Benedictus - 12 jaar
Emma is een doortastend en betrokken twaalfjarig meisje dat zich al jaren actief inzet voor de jongste kinderen in Bosscherveld. Tijdens activiteiten in de wijk draagt Emma op een enthousiaste en verbindende manier bij aan de organisatie en sfeer. Zij is een bekend en geliefd gezicht binnen de wijk, niet alleen bij kinderen, maar ook bij volwassenen. Emma staat altijd paraat om te helpen, toont verantwoordelijkheidsgevoel en draagt zichtbaar bij aan de sociale samenhang in haar omgeving.
In 2024–2025 was Emma locoburgemeester van de Maastrichtse kinderraad.
Lars Hogenboom - 16 jaar
Lars bezit over een indrukwekkend niveau van leiderschap, verantwoordelijkheid en initiatief. Als voorzitter van de leerlingenraad en lid van de medezeggenschapsraad vertegenwoordigt hij medeleerlingen. Lars organiseerde zelfstandig een volledig opgezet gemeenteraadsverkiezingsdebat. Hij laat jongeren op laagdrempelige wijze kennismaken met democratische processen. Daarnaast organiseerde Lars een cultuurdag, gefinancierd via de Burgerbegroting, gericht op het samenbrengen van leerlingen, families en buurtbewoners. Zijn vermogen om mensen te verbinden, maatschappelijke thema's toegankelijk te maken en jongerenparticipatie te stimuleren, is uitzonderlijk.
Wethouder Johan Pas: “Dat Emma en Lars zo vroeg in hun leven al een bijzondere inzet hebben voor anderen, is van groot belang voor onze stad. De maatschappij verhardt en juist om die reden is het extra fijn om te merken dat jongeren zich inzetten voor de gezamenlijkheid. Gemeente Maastricht is enorm trots op hen!”
Selectiecommissie
Jongeren tussen 6 en 18 jaar konden genomineerd worden voor een Jeugdlintje: uit de inzendingen heeft de selectiecommissie unaniem de winnaars gekozen. De selectiecommissie bestaat uit Tiny Meese en John Steijns van de gemeenteraad, Jesse Dessart (Jeugdopbouwwerker Mariaberg) en Jeanke Arts van Trajekt en ontvanger van het Jeugdlintje 2025 Lynn Onstein en natuurlijk Kinderburgemeester Liv Paanakker.

Mariaberg youth worker Jesse Dessart on the Youth Ribbon Selection Committee 2026
[Maastricht | June 3, 2026] On Wednesday, June 3, the festive presentation of the 2026 Maastricht Youth Ribbon took place at City Hall. Child Mayor Liv Paanakker and Alderman Pas presented the Youth Ribbons and a small gift to the young people. For the first time, the recipients of the 2026 Youth Ribbon were allowed to donate 250 euros from the municipality to a charity or association of their choice.
Many children and young people in our city volunteer to do something extra for others. In this way, they contribute to Maastricht as a city of solidarity. In recognition of these young stars (ages 6–18), the municipality presents the Maastricht Youth Ribbon annually.

Emma Benedictus - 12 years old
Emma is a determined and dedicated 12-year-old girl who has been actively committed to helping the youngest children in Bosscherveld for years. During neighborhood activities, Emma contributes to the organization and atmosphere in an enthusiastic and unifying way. She is a familiar and beloved face in the neighborhood, not only among children but also among adults. Emma is always ready to help, demonstrates a sense of responsibility, and visibly contributes to social cohesion in her community.
In 2024–2025, Emma served as deputy mayor of the Maastricht Children's Council.
Lars Hogenboom - 16 years old
Lars demonstrates an impressive level of leadership, responsibility, and initiative. As president of the student council and a member of the parent-teacher association, he represents his fellow students. Lars independently organized a fully planned municipal election debate. He introduces young people to democratic processes in an accessible way. In addition, Lars organized a culture day, funded through the Participatory Budget, aimed at bringing together students, families, and local residents. His ability to connect people, make social issues accessible, and encourage youth participation is exceptional.
Alderman Johan Pas: “The fact that Emma and Lars are already showing such a special commitment to others so early in their lives is of great importance to our city. Society is becoming more divided, and for that very reason, it is especially heartening to see young people working for the common good. The City of Maastricht is immensely proud of them!”
Selection Committee
Young people between the ages of 6 and 18 were eligible for nomination for a Youth Award: the selection committee unanimously chose the winners from the submissions. The selection committee consists of Tiny Meese and John Steijns from the city council, Jesse Dessart (Mariaberg youth worker) and Jeanke Arts from Trajekt, as well as 2025 Youth Ribbon recipient Lynn Onstein and, of course, Child Mayor Liv Paanakker.
